Last night at Soda Lake was peaceful and still—just the way we like it. This place has turned out to be one of our favorite free camping spots so far. It’s quiet, scenic, and comes with perks: lots of spots around the lake, each with their own picnic table and fire ring.
We were up by 7:00 AM local time. After making the bed and brewing up some coffee, Gayla jumped into some invoicing while I flipped through the new books we picked up yesterday.
The weather was perfect, so we set up our shelter facing the lake. It gave us plenty of shade for the day. Gayla brought her computer outside to work, and I took the opportunity to do another POTA activation—this time for Park US-10808. Ended up making 28 unique contacts and 31 total using FT8 mode. Not a bad haul at all for a relaxed day by the water.
I grilled up some steak tacos for brunch on our trusty old Coleman. They hit the spot. Later in the afternoon, Gayla had a remote meeting with a client, and I spent some time learning the constrictor hitch—a knot I’ve wanted to get right for a while.
As the day wound down, we sat outside with the dogs and watched the lake shift from a vibrant turquoise to a deep, dark blue. One of those moments where you just breathe it all in and feel thankful.
