Last night around 9 PM, we took the dogs for a short walk around camp. Their noses were working overtime with all the new scents in the air. After we settled back in, Gayla prepped for her meetings coming up tomorrow while I spent some time digging into research on old Ford diesels. Just a quiet, productive evening in the rig.
We were both up early—5 AM—and caught a beautiful sunrise. Gayla had a video conference scheduled for 6 AM, and I dove into podcast edits for clients.
As the morning light settled in, a light sprinkle began to fall. I glanced out the window and was surprised to see a moose not far in front of Clifford! I quietly stepped outside and managed to grab a few photos. The cool 57° air was brisk but refreshing. I wiped down the windows and set up a little outdoor office space for Gayla to enjoy. By mid-morning, the sun finally broke through and warmed things up.
I played a bit with the QRP HF radio on the 20m band using FT8. It was a slow start—took a while to hit my 10 contact minimum—but the bands still had life even if they weren’t as active as they were a few days ago.
Brunch/lunch was a repeat of the last couple days—why mess with a good thing? While cooking, we spotted a Sage Grouse with her chicks roaming nearby. A real treat to see.
After lunch, we took a quick 20-minute power nap before getting back to work. Gayla had a few projects to wrap up, and I used the time to edit some photos in Lightroom.
Gayla surprised me by wanting to go all out for dinner. We usually just graze through the evening, but not tonight. We fried up nine strips of bacon, then used the grease to crisp up tater tots and sizzle some mango green chili brats. Honestly, it felt like we were eating like royalty.
After supper, we took the dogs for another walk—this time down a logging road we hadn’t explored before. Along the way, we found blooming Fireweed and a beautiful Monument Plant in full flower. The skies were calm, so we lingered a bit before heading back.
As the sun dipped low, the skies glowed orange and it began to sprinkle again. Not enough to settle the dust, but just enough to add some drama to the evening light.
We ended the day snuggled into Clifford, watching a movie, with full bellies and happy hearts.
