Last night brought light sprinkles that danced on top of Clifford’s roof, making for a peaceful and restful night’s sleep. We both woke up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.

We were up semi-early and started the morning with hot coffee. Gayla had a few online presentations lined up, and I dove back into editing podcasts for a few clients. Around 9:45 AM, I took a short break and stepped outside. That’s when I heard a Brown Creeper nearby—its distinct call echoing through the trees. I quickly hit the audio record button and captured a nice bit of nature’s soundtrack.

The mid-morning temperature was comfortable, sitting in the mid-60s. While Gayla wrapped up her video conference, I decided to do a quick park activation again. Running 5 watts into a 36-foot wire hung from a nearby tree, I made 13 total contacts—11 of which were unique. Not a bad session before hitting the road.

By 11:55 AM, we had packed up camp and said goodbye to that spot, heading off in search of a new view. Our route took us back through Lonetree, Wyoming, with a quick detour to the 1825 Rendezvous site for a photo op. From there, we continued about 1.9 miles east and turned south onto CR-1, entering the Ashley National Forest shortly afterward.

Our original plan was to head back to a familiar campsite—but curiosity got the best of us. A road we hadn’t traveled before caught our eye, and we followed it instead. We arrived at our new camp at 2:05 PM, nestled near the confluence of Lodgepole Creek and Sheep Creek. It’s a beautiful area, with wide-open views and a peaceful feel.

About an hour into settling in, a couple from Utah—Chris and Bobby—pulled in with their fifth-wheel trailer. They were meeting up with family and asked if they could share our large site. We let them know we’d only be here for the night and had no problem with them setting up next to us.

Gayla had a 5 PM phone check-in, and while she was on the call, I took the opportunity to activate US-4394 Ashley National Forest. Afterward, she took the dogs on a walk around camp, exploring near the creek confluence. I did spot a snake, but thankfully, it was nothing poisonous.

We ended the day with another walk and then settled in for the evening.

Tomorrow, a new day—and a new road—awaits.
