We were up again at 5:30 AM, but this time there was no rush. Everything had been packed the night before, so we sipped our morning coffee and took a few extra moments to enjoy the quiet beauty of our camp in Medicine Bow National Forest.

Gayla wrapped up a couple of light tasks on the computer before we rolled out to explore more of the forest roads. We weren’t ready to say goodbye to the woods just yet. We meandered slowly, stopping here and there to scout potential future campsites. One thing that surprised us both—a big Class A RV tucked into a spot off a steep, rutted, twisting road. We couldn’t help but wonder how it made it back there. I guess some mysteries stay unsolved.

Eventually, we made our way out to Happy Jack Road and pulled into the Lincoln Memorial rest stop to stretch our legs and let the dogs out. A quick snack there gave us just enough energy to continue into Laramie for a bit of resupplying.

First stop: Cowgirl Yarn. Gayla picked up some beautifully sourced local wool—and even found some linen she liked. From there, we grabbed groceries, refilled our water, and picked up a few essentials. I realized I’d forgotten to pack a long sleeve shirt, so I corrected that. Oscar reminded us we were nearly out of dog food too, so we made sure to get him restocked.

Next, Gayla had a craving for a cheeseburger, so we hit Freddy’s for a quick bite. I went bun-less to keep the carbs down, and an unsweetened tea hit the spot.

With all our errands checked off, we made our way back into the Medicine Bow National Forest to find a spot for the night. We’d seen a few promising open sites on our way out this morning, so we had a short list in mind. But by the time we returned, all but one were full—so we landed right back in our same trusty campsite from the last two nights. No complaints though—it’s a solid spot.

Once we got set up, I turned on the air conditioner to cool down the camper. It worked like a charm. In town, we’d picked up two more of those USB rechargeable fans we like, and they really help circulate the cool air inside.

The dogs got dinner and settled in quickly. Gayla put the finishing touches on her winter hat project—a great end to a creative day.

I fired up the Starlink so we could post this update, since there’s absolutely no cell service out here.
