We were both up early today—blame it on that late afternoon coffee yesterday. Gayla was already working on her computer by 4:30 AM, and I wasn’t far behind.

A morning meeting ended up getting canceled, so we were able to hit the road a little earlier than planned. One of our first stops was the Red Canyon Overlook. That view never gets old—it’s so vibrant and surreal it almost looks like a painting. Truly one of those “is this real?” places.

From there, we made our way to Riverton, Wyoming, for the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous. We met up with Tinker, a local from the Midwest area, and ran into some fellow Missourians—complete with wiener dogs. We walked the grounds and visited just about every vendor there. It was a fun step back in time with all the black powder gear, leather goods, and period clothing.

By the time we made it back to Clifford, it was a blistering 95°F inside. Thankfully, we’ve got the luxury of air conditioning, and we cooled things down fast. What a difference that makes.

It had been a while since we restocked—our last full resupply was back on June 23rd—so it was time to refuel and hit the grocery store. The dogs and I stayed behind in Clifford while Gayla braved the windy Riverton weather and did the shopping. Meanwhile, I searched for a spot to stay the night.

Dinner was simple: parking lot dining at the Walmart in Riverton. After we ate, we decided to head back to the rendezvous grounds and spend the night there. Depending on the weather tomorrow, I might even try my hand at the black powder shoot.
