We would have never dreamed of going to Irasburg, Vermont if it weren’t for our Florida family, the Laramees.  For the last four years or so, we’ve heard stories about the area.  When we were planning our departure from Florida, we mentioned that we wanted to see the Carolina’s outer banks before heading back to Missouri for some family events.  Our friend, Hippy, kept encouraging us to keep going north and see Vermont.

As we left North Carolina, we decided to go for it and make the trip further north.  We didn’t know when we would have another opportunity.

We made it to Burlington, VT on a Wednesday and parked at Pete’s RV Service to have repairs made on our refrigerator.  We ended up staying that night at the repair shop while they assessed the situation.  We met up with another full-timer couple, Wayne and Betsy for dinner.  We met Wayne and Betsy, through the Laramees in Florida well over two years ago.  We hadn’t seen them since, but have kept in touch through Facebook.  We ended up staying another day in the Burlington area and they took us on a tour of the town that Thursday evening.

We left out Friday afternoon to Irasburg, a small village in the Northeast Kingdom.  Hippy offered us to park at his sled shop in town. When we arrived, his son, Jason gave us the red carpet treatment.  Jason grated the driveway for a level place for us to park, mowed an area for our dogs, and got us hooked up to electric in the shop.  We were certainly the talk of the town.   We hadn’t been there an hour before Jason was stopped at least twice to see if his Mom and Dad were back from Florida.  Wayne’s Mother stopped by to have a nice visit and welcome us to town.

There’s not much in the village of Irasburg besides Ray’s Market, the Library, the Post Office, and a church.  We did go to the nearby village of West Glover via dirt back roads to eat at the best pizza place we’ve ever been to, Parker Pie Company.  We ended up eating there three times in a week.  The surprise favorite for us was the Green Mountain Special.  It has spinach, apples, bacon, and maple syrup.  We fully expected not to like it, but with one bite, we were in love.

Internet was good at times to work, but by the end of the week, we were losing our patience and needed to move on so we could get some work accomplished much more efficiently.  Our aunt and uncle, Darlene and Larry were traveling in their Class C and happened to be in Maine.  We stayed an additional day so we could meet up with them for a visit.  We got them hooked on Parker Pie Company as well.

What a relaxing, peaceful, and beautiful week in Irasburg, Vermont.  We look forward to returning.  To think, we would never, ever have thought to even go remotely to that area if it weren’t for our great friends the Laramees.  We thank them for that!!
