puddinfestivalIt was Saturday and we took our time in getting up and around. By 9:20 a.m., we were packed up and headed toward Centerville, TN to the National Banana Pudding Festival. He headed east on Hwy 100 toward Centerville.

At 11:45 a.m., we arrived in Centerville and enjoyed a craft fair on the square and took advantage of some free Wi-Fi. Then we were ready to see what the Pudding Festival was all about. We scooted down the road to enjoy some pudding for a couple of hours. Want to know how the festival went? Click here.

We had our fill of pudding at 2 p.m., from Centerville we headed south on Hwy 48 toward Hohenwald, TN. In Hohenwald, we connected with Hwy 20 east to arrive at Meriwether Lewis National Monument at 2:45 p.m.

Free camping! We found a great spot, set up camp and walked around. Great Park! We walked the main road down from the campground to Little Swan Creek picnic area. The bluffs and creek are simply beautiful! I convinced Robert that we needed to go the nature trail back instead of going up that huge hill on the main road. He wasn’t sure where the trail would lead, but I thought we should go for it. He keeps teasing me about going on that little goat trail, but I think secretly he enjoyed the walk (at least I’ve convinced myself of that.)

By the time we got back to our campsite, it was fairly dark and beginning to rain. We decided to call it a night and hang out in the tent. It was chilly, but warmer than the night before. It rained on and off all evening.

We ended up meeting a very unique individual. His living arrangements was a bright red home-made trailer, with 6-7 matching red mailboxes, Jerry cans, and painted up saw blades decorating the sides. He was a gentle old man and when we said we were from MO, he asked if we were from Kennett. He had just come from there recently. He travels quite a bit around Oklahoma, southern Missouri, northern Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee. He said that he just got out of the hospital and needed to get on the road again to feel like he was living. As we were packing to leave the next morning, he made sure to come by and wish us well. A nice visit with a nice man and his quirky vehicle.
